An Interview with Moyra Parfitt

News

Throughout this year, to commemorate 10 years of Calan DVS, we will be sharing 10 stories over 10 months.  Our next story is about Moyra Parfitt, Operations Manager.

In her role as Operations Manager, Moyra is responsible for maintaining and increasing the efficiency of the organisation across all areas and services.

Moyra became an employee of Calan DVS following the merger with Brecknock Women’s Aid in 2014 and was originally employed as a refuge worker in 2004 with Brecknock Women’s Aid  until the organisation merged with Calan ten years later.

Moyra was immediately appointed Service Manager for Powys and in 2017 she became the Regional Manager for Mid and West Wales. In this role, she was instrumental in overseeing the mergers between Bridgend Women’s Aid, Radnor Women’s Aid and Ammanford Women’s Aid.  Two years later, in 2019 Moyra was appointed to her current post of Operations Manager.

During her time at Calan DVS, Moyra has been responsible for delivering a number of programmes to women, children and young people including the Freedom Programme, the ACE’s Recovery Toolkit, the Inspiring Families programme and the Ask Me programme.  She has also delivered bespoke  Domestic Abuse Awareness and On Call training to staff and other professionals.

Commenting on her time at Calan, Moyra says, “Calan DVS is a brand that is respected within the domestic abuse support services and being part of the organisation has inspired me to remain focused and loyal to a service I feel passionate about. Calan expects its employees to deliver a quality service for survivors of domestic violence and I’m grateful to be part of an organisation with such spirit.

“I enjoy being a member of a forward-thinking organisation which puts the service user at the heart of its delivery. Calan does not shy away from innovative, creative direction, and as result the organisation can offer a 360 % service to victims, being involved with its development makes my position more than a job. Calan cares about its staff  and this demonstrated in the additional  incentives offered  to all  its employees , something that I’m proud to be part of as the operations manager. “

In Moyra’s view, this quote from T.D. Jake sums up Calan DVS for her: “Big ideas come from thinking people who challenge the norm, think outside the box , and invent the world they see inside  rather  than submitting to the limitations of current dilemmas.”

Moyra adds, “During my time with Calan   I have experienced many  challenges , been part of significant changes, but I wouldn’t have chosen to be employed anywhere else.  Being a part of such a dedicated, caring team is truly inspirational.”
