A Calan DVS Volunteer’s Story
Volunteers’ Week celebrates the contribution that so many people make to charities across the UK by volunteering, and Calan DVS is no exception. We’d like to share one of our invaluable volunteer’s stories with you including how she has continued to support us during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Our Volunteer’s Volunteering Story
I am a member of Calan Bridgend’s focus group which meets weekly, and sometimes more often. We are a group of women who come together to support Calan and its workers, peer support to service users, by way of coffee mornings , fundraising events , get togethers and quizzes. We also do things like zoom sessions , as we have been doing during the COVID-19 lockdown , to consider ways to further support Calan . For example, one of our members organised a fundraising quiz where money was raised for Calan .
My new partner is a singer songwriter and wrote a song about domestic violence, donating all its proceeds to Calan .
Currently all our group are all receiving training via Calan , which for me , has been very exciting as I love learning new things and it has helped me consider my career choices.
We have all become a strong community and have created a network of internal support for the staff , in dealing with things like sorting through donations , and organising events. It really is like a family now .
